Decor trends to avoid in 2023

When it comes to decor trends, some things never get old, while others quickly become obsolete. While choosing the decor that’s best for you is key, experts indicate that certain outmoded interior decor ideas and items are falling out of favour. The following decor trends are on their way out in 2023.

Minimalist kitchens

The ultra-modern minimalist kitchen, often in pure white or grey tones, with nothing on the counter, is a trend to avoid in 2023. This year is about kitchens inspired by country homes, surfaces bustling with bowls, plants, and spices. 2023 kitchens are warm, intimate and colourful, as you can see here.

Open floor plans

Post-pandemic it’s become clear, especially for those who worked from home, that an open floor plan in a house or apartment with limited space is impractical. For this reason, design experts predict that 2023 decor trends will favour closed floor plans. A home’s most charming rooms are often its smallest ones, transformed into a comfortable space, such as a breakfast nook.

A TV as a living room centrepiece

Screens are central to most people’s lives these days. But a living room set up as a couch facing a screen leaves little room for anything else. There are ways of making even small spaces more interactive. Try placing sofas face-to-face instead of against the wall, or by adding an extra chair in a corner.

Tonal grey decor

Grey interiors are on their way out, as are cool tones in general. Instead, you’ll see colour pops, highlight walls, and warm tones. One 2023 decor trend is to bring the outdoors inside. Consider natural shades, such as green and blue.

Open cabinets

Open-concept shelves and cabinets were big decor news for a while. People wanted more storage and a sense of openness, but this kitchen decor trend is on its way out in 2023.

No matter what the current trends are, your interior should reflect you and your tastes. Avoiding certain decor faux-pas and taking a cue from a 2023 decor trend or two, however, can result in an interior space you can be proud of, and where you can live well.
