Decrease in the Number of Sales in the Province of Quebec
The month of May was marked by a decrease in sales across Quebec, as transactions fell by 30 per cent compared to May of last year.
Across Quebec, active listings fell by 28 per cent in May while new listings fell by 29 per cent.
All three property categories posted a decrease in sales compared to May of last year:
- Single-family homes: -25 per cent
- Condominiums: -38 per cent
- Plexes (2 to 5 dwellings): -45 per cent
As for prices, the median price of single-family homes and condominiums increased slightly by 2 per cent compared to May of 2019, while the median price of plexes fell by 14 per cent.
Here is the median price of single-family homes in the province's six CMAs in May 2020, as well as their variation as compared to May of 2019.
- Montreal: $370,000 (+9%)
- Gatineau: $300,000 (+9%)
- Quebec City: $267,450 (0%)
- Sherbrooke: $226,000 (+2%)
- Saguenay: $179,900 (-5%)
- Trois-Rivières: $173,000 (+2%)
