Dynamic January on the Province's Real Estate market

The year 2020 got off to a strong start, with a remarkable increase in sales and a widespread increase in the median price of single-family homes, condos and plexes.

Residential sales across the province increased by 18 per cent in January 2020 compared to January of 2019. The number of active listings and new listings fell by 17 and 6 per cent, respectively.

All three property categories registered strong increases in sales but condominiums and plexes (2 to 5 dwellings) stood out with respective increases of 28 and 27 per cent. Sales of single-family homes increased by 13 per cent.

In terms of median price, the largest increase was for plexes at 16 per cent. The median price of both condominiums and single-family homes increased by 7 per cent.

Here is the median price of single-family homes in the province's six CMAs in January 2020, as well as their variation as compared to January of 2019.

  • Montreal: $353,000 (+12%)
  • Gatineau: $265,000 (+7%)
  • Quebec City: $255,000 (+1%)
  • Sherbrooke: $224,000 (+4%)
  • Saguenay: $167,500 (+ 6%)
  • Trois-Rivières: $165,000 (+1%)
