Residential Sales Increase by 5% in August

The number of real estate transactions concluded through the real estate brokers’ Centris® database grew by 5% in Québec in August 2017 compared to August of last year.

Thanks to strong demand for condominiums, the Montréal Census Metropolitan Area (CMA) posted the best result, with an 8% increase in sales. Increases were also observed in the CMAs of Québec City (+7%), Gatineau (+4%) and Trois-Rivières (+3%).

In contrast, sales decreased in the Sherbrooke (-18%) and Saguenay (-13%) CMAs.

As for prices, the median price of single-family homes across the province increased by 5%, while that of condominiums grew by 1% and that of plexes rose by 3%.

Here is the median price of a single-family home in each of the province’s 6 CMAs in August 2017, as well as their variation as compared to August of last year:

  • Montréal: $325,000 (+6%)
  • Québec City: $252,950 (+1%)
  • Gatineau: $240,000 (-2%)
  • Sherbrooke: $205,500 (+2%)
  • Saguenay: $166,000 (-2%)
  • Trois-Rivières: $149,000 (-1%)
